Thoughts From the Dugout On the Return Of Jim Thome

Well folks, he’s back! Jim Thome is back again this season to entertain us at Target Field and to make the ball park seem smaller than what it really is by hitting homeruns over the fence. Thome signed a $3 million one year contract.
He will be returning this season tied for eighth on the all time list with 589 homeruns. I predict that he will get up to 600 home runs this season. The next player on the list of all time home run leaders is Sammy Sosa with 609. Thome could get up to 609 this season.
However, I’d be more realistic in saying that he will for sure reach 600 this season just because Justin Morneau will be returning which will mean less playing time for Thome. Last season, Thome hit 25 homeruns in 276 at bats. I’ll be discussing more on how Ron Gardenhire will be using the players in a future blog.
Thome indicated earlier on Pat Rouise’s and Phil Mackey’s radio show on ESPN 1500 that he will be trying to recruit Carl Pavano. My prediction is Thome will be a major factor in bringing back Pavano to pitch for us. Pavano led the team with 17 wins last season. His presence will help a younger pitching rotation and provide a solid starter that can be counted on to be an ace for the team.
